ECA 60 anos

The School of Communications and Arts (ECA) at the University of São Paulo (USP) celebrates its 60th anniversary on June 16, 2026. Since its founding in 1966, ECA has established itself as a premier institution in Latin America, fostering innovation and excellence in the fields of communication, culture, and information.

Our History

ECA was created during a period of intense cultural effervescence and rapid media expansion in Brazil. Originally designed to be a social and creative hub for the university campus, it quickly became a pioneer in higher education:

  • Pioneering Spirit: In 1972, ECA launched Brazil’s first Master’s programs in Arts and Communication Sciences.
  • Global Reach: Since the 1980s, the school has maintained international partnerships with top-tier universities in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
  • Excellence in Research: Today, ECA is a reference point for academic production and has trained generations of renowned professionals, artists, and scholars who shape the global cultural landscape.

Celebrating 60 Years

To mark this milestone, we are hosting a series of events and initiatives running until December 2026. We invite students, alumni, faculty, and international partners to join our celebration.

Commemorative Visual Identity

The official 60th-anniversary seal, designed by Professor Dorinho Bastos alongside designers Susana Narimatsu and Juliana Baracat, represents our history and future vision. It will be featured in all institutional communications throughout the anniversary period.
