ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Cinema, Radio and Television (CTR) trains professionals, artists and researchers able to work in the various segments of the audiovisual sector, such as directors, producers, screenwriters, photographers, sound designers, editors, animators, essayists, critics and teachers. In addition to the artistic, technical and academic areas, many of its former students work as cultural managers and directors of entities in public and private institutions in the audiovisual sector.

Mission

The department's mission is to develop teaching, research and extension in cinema, radio, television and digital media, forming critical professionals, artists and researchers able to intervene in a strategic area of ​​contemporary life. The Department's multiple activities in the undergraduate, postgraduate, research and cultural and extension areas favor research on language, formats and technological innovation, as well as permanent dialogue with centers of excellence in the country and abroad, support for the formation of networks cooperation strategies and the debate around public policies aimed at the development of the audiovisual sector in Brazil.

The Department's vision is to be among the best cinema and audiovisual schools in the world and to be one of the main centers for audiovisual experimentation and research. The Department also proposes to contribute to the formulation of public policies that favor the democratization of culture and the arts, the generation of wealth, employment and income in the creative economy, technological innovation and aesthetic elaboration in the audiovisual field, in addition to developing actions of internationalization and criticism.

Educational Proposal

Encourage the student to understand the cultural, philosophical, scientific and technological foundations of the processes of production, distribution, financing, reception and audiovisual criticism, relating theory and practice in an interdisciplinary way, with the aim of training a professional with a global view of these processes as well as having different skills and competences to respond to the challenges of society, the labor market and the regulatory framework specific to the audiovisual sector.
