At ECA, foreign students can apply for academic exchange under four modalities:

Undergraduate

Undergraduate students can attend a maximum of eight subjects per semester. The list of subjects is available on USP’s JupiterWeb System. Students are expected to prepare their study plan for the exchange programme in advance. However, we offer two weeks from the beginning of the academic semester for students to make the necessary adjustments to their study plan. All subjects are taught in Portuguese.

Students must take into account the specific requirements of different subjects before submitting their applications. Requests will be analyzed considering the student’s transcripts and the study plan.

There are two different types of application:

1 - If the foreign student's home institution has an agreement with USP (and not directly with ECA):
The home institution must follow the nomination instructions on the AUCANI website.

2 - If the foreign student's home institution has a direct agreement with ECA

I.  The home university must send the student's nomination by email to incoming.eca@usp.br.

II.   Students must fill the ECA's Application Form. After filling it up, they will receive an e-mail with a pdf file, which must be printed and signed by both the student and the international relations office of the home university.

III. Duly signed, the application form must be scanned and sent to the email incoming.eca@usp.br, together with a certificate of intermediate-level Portuguese - CELPE-BRAS proficiency certificate or letter from the student’s home university attesting language proficiency. The document is not mandatory for countries that have Portuguese as their native language. Brazilians living abroad must send a copy of their ID Card.

Research Mobility

This is an exchange modality in which the graduate student (master or PhD) from a foreign higher education institution conducts a period of research at ECA, participating in seminars and research discussions involving members of the school’s academic staff and graduate student community. Candidates should contact a potential supervisor in a relevant field of research from one of ECA’s Postgraduate Programs.

The research period is limited to six months, extendable for another six months but not exceeding 12 months in total.

Research students are not allowed to formally enroll in undergraduate or graduate courses. If they wish to do so, they must follow the procedures for a regular exchange at ECA (under the Graduate studies modality).

According to the decision taken by the Dean of Postgraduate Studies, applications made for research periods of more than three months grant the researcher access to the university infrastructure for food, transportation (BUSP card) and leisure, in addition to the libraries and the USP network intranet. The researcher is also entitled to the USP card.
In the case of applications for less than three months, access to these benefits is limited.

At the end of the research period and upon submission of a final report, the researcher will receive a certificate issued by ECA proving the development of the work.

ECA does not provide scholarships or any other type of financing to those approved. The expenses with airline tickets, housing, transportation and food are the responsibility of the researcher.

About the visa: the researcher must present to CRInt proof of a temporary visa of the type VITEM I. The tourist visa is not accepted for establishing a link with USP.

How to apply:
For research stay application procedures, you must complete the application form and upload the following documents:

  • Letter of acceptance for research tutoring (dated and signed by the supervisor at ECA, following the provided template);
  • Certificates of completion of undergraduate and master degrees (the latter only for applications for doctorate students);
